The hot American number one tennis player, Andy Roddick, has said that he will not be part of the American team for the tennis event in the Beijing Olympics and will be skipping the Olympics tennis tournament to play at the Leg Mason Tennis Classic hard court tournament in a bid to regain some form and keep him in good stead for the US Open. Roddick said that his goal is to win the US Open and to play at the Legg Mason tournament that he has won three times. He feels that he will be better prepared for the US Open when he plays at the Washington tournament and wants to defend his title at the Legg Mason.

The Washington tournament clashes with the dates of the Beijing Olympics as it is slated to take place from Aug 11 to 17th and the US Open is to begin at the Flushing Meadows on August 25th. Roddick has won the US Open in 2003 and has been champion of the Legg Mason tournament in 2001, 2005 as well as 2007. His last outing at the Olympics was in Athens 2004 where he lost in the third round and he said then that the Olympics tennis is not the big thing in US sport, even though it is the biggest sporting spectacle in the whole world.
