In this last summer’s Beijing Olympics, there was a story that very few people actually covered.  The US Women’s Judo team made history, winning their first ever medal in the event.  Ronda Rousey was hoping for a gold medal, but was bested by Edith Bosch from the Netherlands earlier in the games.  After that, she came back and won three matches in a row to win the bronze medal in the end.  Last year, she won a silver medal in world competition and next year she plans to take a break from the sport to catch up on some of the things she missed while training for these competitions.  Rousey’s mother won a gold medal in world non-olympic competition 24 years ago, so Ronda clearly has judo in her genes.  We should look forward to 2012, when the team will certainly try to meet or beat the example they set this year.
