The David Beckham experiment is the subject of a new book, detailing the situation that brought Beckham into the MLS soccer league and why it hasn’t worked out all that well. One of the main difficulties is that his first year was plagued by injuries. In the second year, he just didn’t perform all that well. This man who was supposed to help popularize soccer in America and who was supposed to make LA even bigger turned out to be a bust. He also had difficult relations with his fellow players, including Landon Donovan, the best player in the MLS. He took the captainship away from him and the two generally had cool relations, despite many people’s efforts to better the situation.
