What a year for the US Open. I know I kind of blew it off a few days ago. Melanie Oudin is one of the biggest surprises of the year. On the way towards the Semi-finals, she has beaten Dementieva and Sharapova. Meanwhile, in this year’s Wimbledon, she beat Jankovic too. This is a tough year for the best players in tennis, but it’s getting better and better for some of these underdogs. Oudin seems to be coming out of nowhere, since last year she was ranked lower than 200 and left after the first round. But she seems to be playing a consistent game in which she loses the first set but then comes back from that point. Perhaps she’s just such a gritty player and everything else.
